As The Daily Beast and Mashable have reported recently, it looks like Apple-cofounder Steve Wozniak has developed a crush on Android, saying “I wish it [my iPhone] didll the things my Android does, I really do.”

Might we suggest it has to do with tawkon being widely available for Android devices, as opposed to the iPhone?

Some other reasons Woz cited, according to TDB:

Woz says voice commands work better on Android. Android’s built-in navigation system, where the phone acts like a GPS system, is another advantage, he says.

Android phones aren’t as simple to use as the iPhone, but they’re not that much more complicated, and “if you’re willing to do the work to understand it a little bit, well I hate to say it, but there’s more available in some ways,” Woz says.

So, which phone did Santa bring you for Christmas this year?

This holiday season, the numbers of phones getting into the hands of consumers is staggering!

First off, in the OS arena, Apple and Android made out the best: 6.8 million Android and iOS devices were activated on Christmas Day – compared to 1.5 on any given day in the weeks before.

As far as phone manufacturers go, Apple and Samsung are going the distance. Both happen to be on either end of tawkon’s radiation output infographic with the newly popular iPhone 4S at the  top with 1.15 watts per kilogram and Samsung’s Galaxy SII at a low .36 w/kg. Samsung became the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer in 2011, attributed to its strong Galaxy line, including the brand new Nexus.

It looks like Apple has sold around 30 million iPhones in this quarter, including its own brand new 4S. Reports also claim it’ll be another 26-40 million iPhones sold in Q1 of 2012, with further estimates of 200 million iPhones to be sold throughout next year. Not surprising with the iPhone 5 on the way.

As far as carriers, AT&T is on track to break records, selling “over 100,000 smartphones a day” this quarter.

Undoubtedly, all these handhelds are being scooped up for their powerful features; it would be naive  to think radiation output is one of the primary factors listed on people’s pros/cons charts. Seems like it’s harder for people to take that preventative step in the purchasing phase. Lucky for everyone, then, that tawkon offers tips for decreasing radiation exposure while in use, whether the phone’s inherent SAR level is naughty or nice.

Sure, Santa can take a break for the next 11 months, but he better hire a few more reindeer in 2012. That’s not an acronym for Santa’s Arctic Reindeer. The specific absorption rate, or SAR, is a measurement for how much radiation your body is absorbing from the phone. The lower the number, the lower the radiation exposure.

Every model sold in the U.S. is tested for a SAR of <1.6 watts per kilogram (2.2lbs). How much energy is absorbed on any given slice of tissue on your body? 1.6 watts is what’s used to light up a string of 36 LED Christmas lights. C is for… cell phone cancer. The World Health Organization classifies cell phones as a potential cancer risk much like exhaust from gasoline-powered vehicles and, yes, lead.

There’s an app for that

tawkon is a mobile app that tracks your phone’s radiation output in real-time, while alerting you with quick tips to lower your exposure levels. Lower your exposure by altering your phone’s position, its distance from your body, your location, and more.

As you may have heard, Apple recently rejected the tawkon application from the iPhone App Store.  Since then, users around the world have been enjoying tawkon on other devices to avoid mobile phone radiation. Despite this, and despite the fact that the app works on the iPhone (and Apple executives even complimented the app & its GUI ), users can’t yet benefit from it because Apple hasn’t approved it.

So please sign our petition because everyone knows about mobile phone radiation, but now “there’s an app for that!” We’re asking Apple to let people use tawkon and enjoy their phones while avoiding mobile phone radiation!

This petition is sent directly to the App Review Board who we know have been receiving and noting these voices heard every day. So let’s keep showing Apple that iPhone users are also entitled to control their exposure to mobile phone radiation, and use their great devices more responsibly.

Well, Apple haven’t accepted our app to the app store, but it’s still early days – we’re optimistic and have many channels to pursue to get tawkon into the hands of mobile phone users worldwide.
